The American Century Video (Part 1)
Watched a video in class. Unfortunately, the video was on VHS so I can't link it to this page.
Note: VHS is a ridiculously dated technology that can't be linked in any way, shape, or form to a computer. This is the technology that those of us who grew up in the '80s and '90s had to suffer with until the invention of the DVD. You may have seen it before hiding in the back of your parents' video collection. You know, all the old stuff that never gets watched but yet never gets thrown away either. Anyway, much of the Liberty HS video library still exists on this dated medium even though it is now worthy of being a history lesson on its own. If you have missed the video, see me about what to do next.

Beginnings of the Cold War (Part 2)
Remember that fruit drawing thing we were doing before we got cut off for the Toga assembly. Fear not, the excitement continues today...
Now that you are experts on the distinction between capitalism and communism (and pretty talented fruit artists, as well) I asked you to write a short, in-class essay that identified the differences between capitalism and communism, which system you would want to institute if you were the leader of a nation, an advantage of your chosen system, and a disadvantage of your chosen system. Most of you already did this in class. If so, congratulations. You're done. For those of you that did not turn in the essay, or were absent, you will need to make this up. It's worth 100 points and it's relatively easy. Most of those who wrote the essay got an A. If you have not done so, please turn in your essay as soon as possible. If you would like to review the Lecture Notes on the beginnings of the Cold War, well, here ya go...(the essay prompt is on the last slide.)
Optional: We were going to watch the following video in class, but ran short on time. If you feel like viewing it, it takes about 15 minutes and is a good representation of the state of race relations in Levittown, PA in 1957. Crisis in Levittown Video (Note: This video contains language which is considered offensive today, but was unfortunately in common usage in the 1950's). Watch the video and consider the following: wera all Levittowners opposed to an African American family moving in? What were some of the reasons given for being against the Myers family moving in? What type of segregation is this?
The last half of class was spent viewing the second half of the American Century video on the 1950's. Unfortunately, I can't link it here, so see me about what to do if you missed it.
